With so many campgrounds in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, some might wonder why the lowbudget Comers Rock Campground is included here. Its six sites, vault toilet, and location away from the epicenter of outdoor activities in this 119,000-acre national forest recreation area will probably not draw many campers from the larger and spiffier campgrounds, such as Beartree and Grindstone. But these qualities make it a suitable camping alternative for those seeking to be far from the madding crowd and RV campers.

This was a great camp site. The trail that we hiked was a rigerious 2.5 miles up and started basically right at the camp site. The next day we went just down the road and did some more hiking. Right across the street is a stocked river with trout and at the same time it is far enough in the back country that I doubt it will ever get crowded. For those that like ORV there are some great ORV trails less than 5 miles from the camp site. We are planning several return trips later this year.
