Otter Creek Campground lies near the lowest point (649 feet) on the Blue Ridge Parkway, whose 469 miles of two-lane blacktop are among the most spectacular in the country. Curiously, the highest point on the Virginia section of the parkway is only 15 miles south of here.
This should give you an idea of the overall up-and-down nature of this famed scenic byway, which also has flat sections. The Blue Ridge Parkway begins numerically at milepost 0, located north of here at Afton Mountain, where Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway meet.
