If your perception of Northern Virginia is traffic gridlock, rampant development, and trees as endangered species, then Prince William Forest Park may very well cause an abrupt mind-shift. This 17,000-acre woodland, located just 32 miles from the nation’s capital, could just as easily be 32 miles from the middle of nowhere. Once you’ve gotten to the Oak Ridge Campground in the northwestern corner of the park, the bustle and sounds of I-95 shadowing the park’s entrance on the eastern edge will have long since drifted away.
