This is an ascent to the inspiring summit of Turk Mountain is followed by a descent along the same trail. The trail up Turk Mountain begins across the road from the Turk Gap parking lot, at which point you immediately access the Appalachian Trail south. Continue along the AT for 0.1 mile and turn right onto the Turk Mountain Trail, which follows a brief downhill course, dropping through a saddle. At about 0.4 mile the trail begins to ascend abruptly and continues to do so throughout the climb. Near the top, the trail switchbacks several times, culminating approximately 1.1 miles later at an elevation of 2,981 feet. Upon reaching what is essentially the trail’s end, if you want good views you must scramble over rocks for a short distance.

This trail is somewhat strenuous as stated in the description but the summit view is well worth the effort!
