A very difficult but immensely rewarding day hike featuring spectacular views from the top of the dramatic cliffs of Table Rock Mountain, as wall as a visit to the summit of Pinnacle Mountain. Table Rock is one of South Carolina’s most popular state parks. The imposing granite dome of Table Rock, the pristine mountain lake, the excellent network of trails—all draw visitors from far and near. The mountain got its name from Cherokee legend. The Cherokees believed that the Great Spirit used Table Rock as a dining table and the shorter mountain, The Stool, as a seat. The trail system at Table Rock State Park has been designated a National Historic Trail.

I hiked this trail in the rain and loved every minute of it. The rain kept a lot of people away so the entire day I think I saw 8 other people. The hike up has a few sections that are fairly difficult, especially for anyone with knee or ankle issues. The only downside of the clouds and rain was that I did not get to enjoy the view from the top. I did, however, get to sit on Table Rock and enjoy the rain. By the end of the hike down I was definitely worn out. I was sore the next day or two, but it was well worth it.

Very nice camping area and beautiful but a very strenuous trail. We went up the pinnacle trail. I was worn out by the time we got to the lookout but it was worth the long hike. Get started early and you will not see many people at all. Take plenty of water with you.
