Recent history is a theme of sorts for this charming and sedate campground. It sits on former farmland once tilled by the Cable family. After World War II broke out, the demand for aluminum soared. Nearby, Fontana Dam was built to generate power to produce the aluminum. The farming families moved away and the Forest Service moved in, later establishing a campground in the hollow.
