This is a very diverse hike that starts in the Signal Point Reservation of the Chickamauga Chattanooga National Battle Field and goes over to Edwards Point, a spectacular overlook in Prentice Cooper State Forest. The hike begins in the community of Signal Mountain, a bedroom community of Chattanooga. This is a heavily used hiking area. This is a diverse hike, and it begins in a diverse area. Even driving over to the parking area, you can see the rails in the street, remnants of the trolley system that used to serve the community of Signal Mountain. The parking area is managed by Chickamauga Chattanooga National Park, the first national battlefield to be set aside in the United States. Signal Point was exactly that: a signal point used by the Union troops to signal information in and out of the besieged town of Chattanooga during the fall of 1863. Even such a small area has the feel of a national park or monument.
