This section of trail is perhaps the Bartram Trail’s best part. An outstanding ridge walk, perfect for backpacking or day hiking, the graded trail traverses a rarely visited ridge and spectacular summits. Descriptions of the following trails are included: Bartram Trail and Whiteside Mountain National Recreation Trail. This hike combines easy access, masterful design, gradual grade, and backcountry character. Section 2 of the Bartram Trail is a well- kept secret in the Highlands Ranger District of Nantahala National Forest. On this less- visited trail, hikers can enjoy relative solitude.
