Hiked Helmet Creek trial only in and out due to 'inclement' weather. Tremendous thunderstorm Friday night, lasted about 12 hours, with heavy rains and wind. Blew down many trees on the trail.
Helmet Falls area very scenic. Note that Parks map is incorrect for falls trail which is on the west side and NOT the east. Be prepared with a cooking stove as there were no campfire sites.
Weather can change quickly and dramatically!
Definitely not a trail for amateurs.
The wild flowers are incredible and the view of the Rockwall is awe inspiring. In some spots the trail is overgrown and narrow due to the forest fire a few years back. The marmots whistle at you as pass by the Rockwall. Be aware of the horse flies and take precautions. If the wind is up then they are not a problem. The view at Summit Pass is great. All in all a great trip.
