This is not a review, but does anyone have thoughts on snowshoes for this hike? Im looking for a good challenge but easy to get to from the city.
Cross country skied Ship Creek to Indian Creek. It was a fantastic ski, most enjoyed by those who had intermediate or better classic skiing skills. Some folks had backcountry skis with metal edges, some without metal edges, and some others with touring skis typically used in groomed tracks. Trail involved a great winding downhill to start, then long meandering ski up Ship Creek towards Indian Pass. Nothing too technically challenging here. All you need is endurance to ski 22 miles and an ability to enjoy beautiful views. Pass is an easy ascent, with a nice downhill descent winding through the trees. What a blast!
Having good snow conditions makes or breaks this trip, and we got lucky to be skiing it 4 days after a nice snowfall added a layer of powder and filled in the forest floor on the Indian Creek side. We skied it at a very leisurely pace and did it in about 7 hrs. This ski is a gem, and a wonderful way to see the Chugach.
