Great short tip, even in less than ideal weather,
Leaving from the ski area parking lot, the dirt trail gradually slops up to saddle that looks down into Anchorage and down into the Highland Valley.
The dogs like the steam the parallels the path up almost 2/3 the way to the saddle.
At the saddle the route to right goes up the back or Rendezvous peak, on a steeper trail, route left goes up Mt Gordon Lyon, and if you keep going over to Highland peak.
The route down from Rendezvous peak follows the chair lift, in the spring the snow in the gullies is great for glissaiding for long stretches (bringing a large plastic garbage really helps to sliding a long ways on)
This summit is an outstanding view for limited output. Unfortunately we went a little too early in the season (mid June)and had to trudge through some snow and quite a bit of mud from the runoff. It was still do-able but not without going off the trail. Otherwise the trail was easy to follow. Saw two eagles scouting and one grizzly far enough away to be exciting but not scary. Will do again this season...it's worth it!
Rendezvous Peak is a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of Anchorage. Just becareful to stay on the right trail I did not and ended hiking a ridge and approx. 2 more miles. On the top of Rendezvous Peak you can see stunning tarns and Eagle River, there is also a carin at the top.
