We did the lower Dewey Lakes Trail. This trail was FUN! The first mile or so was all uphill and switchbacks. When you finally get to the lower lake and hike around the lake, the fun starts at the rock scrambling!
This hike had it all, switchbacks, smooth trails, rock scrambling, running rivers/creeks and campgrounds! Highly recommend instead of doing an excursion! This hike will take you roughly 3.5 hours.
Ahhhhhh....Dewey Lake! I just love the Dewey Lakes. A trip to Skagway is not complete without an overnighter at Upper.
Upper Dewey lake is a pleasant lake set in a glacial bowl. A second lake beyond Upper dewey lake is well worth pushing on to, where the trail offers expansive views over Skagway, the inlet and the coastal mountains on the other side of Skagway.
The trail to Upper Dewey lake is straight forward, but steep in places.
I rate the hike to upper Dewey lake as a 3.5 out of 5, and the hike to the higher alpine lake as a 4.25 out of 5.
