We did the half day Snowbird Mining Trail at Hatcher Pass. The access road was VERY rutty and probably did a number on our rental van. The trail began with an easy, well worn road up to the old mine. Shortly after the trail became a path with steep inclines up the mountain and over boulder field. We had little ones with us so we were very careful with regard to foot and hand holds. The mountainous terrain continued throughout until we reached the lake. We could have pressed on further but the weather was turning cold and the kids were tired. Spectacular views, but at times the trail was not very well marked and we were unsure if we were on the right path. This is NOT for the casual hiker and I would have gladly traded my tennis shoes for hiking boots that day.
