The scenery around Moraine Lake doesn’t get much better: classic high alpine views with a pristine mountain lake sparkling in the sunshine, volcanic peaks that feel so close you can touch, and plenty of spots to admire them all in between. The beauty comes at a price, however: Nearly all of the 1,500 feet of elevation occurs within the ?rst 2 miles. Luckily, the return portion of the loop is much gentler and friendlier to runners.
