It takes a special person to love the desert. The dry heat, the sand, and the barren landscape tend to shoo away all but the hardy. The Oregon Badlands Wilderness is no exception. A large swath of land southeast of Bend, the Badlands is an inhospitable but beautiful place. Ancient juniper trees dot the landscape among unique outcroppings of volcanic rock and sagebrush. And though the miles of trails can be challenging due to the rough terrain, the solitude and desert beauty you’ll ?nd in the Badlands make it well worth exploring.
