The Phil’s Trail network in Bend is one of the most well-known and well-loved trail systems for mountain bikers in the state of Oregon. The superbly designed trails provide the perfect fast, sweeping flow of riding that off-road bikers love. Plus, the sheer number of trails, variety of terrain, and loop possibilities keep riders entertained all year long. Though built originally for mountain biking, the trails are open to runners and hikers as well. It should be noted that the trails stemming from the main Phil’s Trailhead are arguably some of the best for mountain biking but not necessarily the best for trail running. The continuous S-curve singletrack paths, along with a lack of vistas and the popularity of the network, mean that for runners, Phil’s is probably not the most ideal. If you’re in a pinch, however, or you’re new to town and you simply want to run in a place your friends have told you about, Phil’s works just fine. Thiss quick loop, perfect for a lunchtime run, combines Ben’s, MTB, and Kent’s Trails.
