Another beautiful Southern black-water river is the centerpiece of this 2.6-mile loop trail. But not only will you be walking the banks of the wide and deep Calcasieu River, but also an impressive cypress swamp with its quintessential thick covering of Spanish moss and wildflower glades bursting with color. We get another chance to visit one of the South’s amazing black-water rivers, tinted a darker color by the tannin of shoreline trees, this time along a beautiful 2.6-mile loop trail, the River Walk Trail. The trail meanders along the banks of the wide and deep West Fork of the Calcasieu River and weaves its way through an impressive cypress swamp with its classic thick blanket of Spanish moss and wildfl ower glades bursting with color. This hike actually uses two trails: the River Walk Trail and the Cypress Tupelo Trail. Together these two trails give you a good feel for this wonderful park and the land and water features it holds.
