Here’s something a little different: a trail at a state welcome center and a fine one at that. The Escatawpa Trail is an easy 1.4-mile loop located at the Mississippi Welcome Center on I-10 West at the Alabama state line. It’s a surprising little trail with an abundance of beautiful wildflowers and two panoramic views of the Escatawpa River from viewing platforms high above the river on a bluff. So, you’re traveling down I-10 westbound from Alabama to Mississippi. You’re tired from a long drive; your legs are numb from hours of nonstop travel. You need a break. You pull into the Mississippi Welcome Center just past the Alabama state line and get out of the car to stretch your legs.
