How is it that you could be hiking through deep woods after a 15-minute drive from downtown Branson, Missouri? The speed of driving through development on MO 65 gives way to a peaceful walking pace on the Homesteaders Trail alongside a beautiful creek and 14-foot waterfall. You’ll see evidence of early inhabitants of the area, such as abandoned water wells, rock walls, ponds, and glades used by early homesteaders. Ruth and Paul Henning provided this land that is now a conservation area on the northwest edge of Branson. Mr. Henning was a writer and producer, responsible for several TV classics such as Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, and Petticoat Junction. Mr. Henning died in 2005 but would be pleased to know that his gift is being enjoyed and protected.
