This straight, shaded trail segment reaches the midpoint of the original Erie Canal at Sims’ Store. From Albany to Buffalo, the Erie Canal towpath provides some of the most pleasant walking, biking, skating, and running trail footage in New York State, with about 380 miles of level, meticulously maintained pathways. This tiny segment of the total trail extends through Erie Canal Park northwest of Syracuse, ending in Camillus at the exact midpoint of the original canal and the 300-acre Erie Canal Park. If you enjoy this short hike, consider a longer trek along the canal.
