Tucked into a remote corner of Adirondack Park, this short hike tells a meaty story about ironworking and elite hunting. More of a stroll than a hike, this amble through the ruins of an ironworks and (later) vacation resort is packed with fascinating Adirondack history. It begins at the remains of the Adirondac Iron Works and moves up the road at a leisurely pace, giving you the opportunity to peer into the handful of broken buildings that remain and wonder about the people who once labored at this remote industrial site—and the circumstances that led an American vice president to make a famous midnight ride out of the mountains in a horse-drawn carriage.
