Easy access, big wild trout, but they’re wise. The Davidson is justly famed as one of North Carolina’s premier trout fisheries. From its headwaters to Avery Creek, about 14 miles, the river is managed for wild trout. There’s no stocking. Angling is strictly catch-and-release and open to fly fishers only. Below Avery Creek, general regulations apply and the river is heavily stocked. From Avery downstream to the boundary of Pisgah National Forest, access is easy. But outside the forest, the land becomes private and access is more restricted. Species: Brown, rainbow, brook. Angling methods: spin, and fly-fishing.
