The Middle Fork of the Flathead River is probably better known for its rapids than for its fishing, but many anglers get the chance to fish it because of the easy access from U.S. Highway 2 and the four rafting companies that float it. It provides a little less action than the North Fork but has a similar number of 8- to 10-inch cutthroat as well as bigger rainbows and a few lake trout. Later in the season most of the pressure is concentrated in the canyon section just before West Glacier. Species include: mountain whitefish, westslope cutthroat trout, bull trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, and lake trout.
