A large, flat open area at the end of the road, with plenty of parking, and a primitive fire ring, is all that greets you at Nicholson Field. The National Forest Service website actually has this listed as a campground, and Long Bottom Ford listed as a primitive campsite, but in fact, it’s the other way around. Although it’s very primitive, this prime location near the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River makes this a good spot to gather with friends, especially if you are river rafters or whitewater kayakers.
