Tall trees and colorful wildflowers line the road as you enter Myrtle Beach State Park. It’s touted as South Carolina’s very first state park, and they’ve done a fabulous job of keeping up appearances since its inception in 1936. This beachfront park has a full mile of oceanfront property, and large picnic shelters line the grassy fields just west of the sand dunes. A fishing pier juts out into the Atlantic Ocean, and you can fish from the pier or the shore, as long as you have a South Carolina state fishing license. During the winter months, visitors are welcome to bring their own horses and ride on the beach.
