This direct route leads from the large parking lot at the south end of Wallowa Lake to the summit of Chief Joseph Mountain. Take the nature trail south from the parking lot. In a short distance the trail crosses a small creek on a wooden bridge. Just after crossing the creek, turn right off the trail and climb steeply on a path to the west-southwest, to where the route intersects Chief Joseph Mountain Trail (5,120 feet). Turn left (south) on Chief Joseph Mountain Trail and go 100 yards or so, then turn right off Chief Joseph Mountain Trail.
