Bonneville Mountain is the pyramid-shaped peak directly south of Wallowa Lake. It is the first major peak on the ridge dividing the East and West Forks of the Wallowa River. The east side route is a steep scramble, with some moderate rock climbing from the East Fork Wallowa River Trail to the summit. The route turns off the trail to the right (west) in a semiopen area. Climb the low ridge between the obvious gullies. Continue to climb, on game trails when available, to a saddle on the north ridge of Bonneville Mountain. Just below the saddle, traverse left (south) to reach its lowest point (7,320 ft.). From the saddle climb up the ridge to the south to a false summit (7,970 ft.),
