This day hike or backpacking trail leads from Indian Crossing Trailhead to the junction with North Fork Imnaha River Trail, along the the scenic Imnaha River. (Trail 1816) Observe the recovering forest along the canyon and allow enough time to visit Blue Hole and Imnaha Falls. Both of these spots offer good swimming holes on a hot day and both have good fishing when it’s cooler.
The trail heads upriver (west) from the parking area. Just after leaving the parking lot there is a fenced area and some small buildings on the right side of the trail. A trail junction (4,650 ft.) is at 0.7 mile; the trail to the right goes back to the pack station, so bear left and head on up the Imnaha River Trail. Just after passing the junction, the trail enters the burned area of the 1994 Twin Lakes Fire.
