This day hike or backpack in the Upper Little Minam River Canyon goes from Moss Springs Trailhead to the junction with Jim White Ridge, Cartwheel Ridge, and Lackeys Hole Trails.
Upper Little Minam River Trail 1942 begins at Moss Springs Trailhead (5,800 ft.). At the start, the Moss Springs/Horse Ranch Trail and Upper Little Minam River Trail are the same trail for a short distance. The trails fork 100 yards from the trailhead. At the fork, Upper Little Minam River Trail is to the right (southeast). The wide trail descends into the Little Minam River Canyon through a forest of lodgepole pine, fir, and tamarack (western larch).
