This long, gentle backpack leads down the Minam River from the Horse Ranch to Meads Flat Trailhead and back or possibly on to the town of Minam on OR 82. The Horse Ranch was once a dude ranch. It has been purchased by the forest service and now has volunteer caretakers during the summer. There is an airstrip at the Horse Ranch that is open to the public. From the junction 100 yards east of the Horse Ranch the trail heads downriver to the north-northwest. The trail enters Eagle Cap Wilderness 0.5 mile from the junction. A quarter mile farther, between the river and the trail, is a good campsite. From the campsite, a small sawmill, which is part of the Minam Lodge operation, can be seen across the river to the west. There is a small stream just below the campsite.
