Located within R.J.D. Memorial Hardwood State Forest, this rustic campground has much to offer in terms of recreation. The Vinegar Ridge Recreation Area runs along the Root River State Trail, a 42-mile paved multiuse trail that goes through the highly scenic communities of Lanesboro and Whalan. Money Creek and Vinegar Ridge has access to the Root River State Water Trail, which canoers and kayakers use to enjoy the river. There are also 6 miles of horse trails here. Within the forest itself is access to the Cannon, Mississippi, Whitewater, and Zumbro Rivers. (Note: The forest is open to hunters, so take precautions if camping during hunting season.) Campsites are very private and remote. Pets are allowed.
