This park is not far from the Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park, and it’s a good alternative to that larger, busier park. Water enthusiasts appreciate access to Lake Louise itself as well as to the area where the Little Iowa and Upper Iowa Rivers meet. The lake has a good swimming beach. This is a very trail-oriented park, with more than 11 miles of hiking trails, 14 miles of paved biking trails (which connect to the Shooting Star State Trail), and nearly 10 miles of horse trails. With more than 140 species of birds that have been identified here, it’s also a big draw for bird-watchers. Campsites are tucked into the woods and offer good privacy. Pets are allowed.
