You can hardly ask for a better location than the 252-acre Hok- Si- La’s spot on Lake Pepin, with access to the Mississippi River. The enormous sandy swimming beach is also a good place to sit and watch the sailboats go by. Along with the volleyball and basketball courts is a large open area, good for spontaneous kickball games. There are hiking trails with interpretive signs that connect the campsites to the beach as well as to scenic overlooks, while an interpretive center provides education on the wildlife, birds, and plants found in the park. The park is on a spring migration route for warblers, and eagle sightings are common thanks to the addition of an eagle nesting platform. The tenting sites have considerable privacy, and many have water views. Pets are allowed.
