Lake Mille Lacs is one of the most popular fishing lakes in Minnesota, well known for its walleye population as well as bass, northern pike, perch, and muskie. There are two boat ramps, but even fishing from shore will likely net you a good dinner. The hiking trails in this park aren’t as extensive as in other state parks, but they wander through stands of hardwoods that are beautiful, especially in the fall. The swimming beach is particularly clean and sandy. Bird- watchers and wildlife viewers will find much to enjoy as well, including the possibility of spotting albino deer. The campsites are reasonably well spaced and treed for privacy, with some along the lake. This is a popular destination in the summer, so reserve far ahead of time. Pets are allowed.
