This park has one of the nicest swimming beaches you’ll find, with a beach on Sturgeon Lake that’s 0.5 mile long, and shallow wading waters that extend far out from the beach, making it ideal for families with young children. Both Sturgeon and Side Lakes offer boaters access to the connected Sturgeon Lake Chain of Lakes, where walleye, trout, bass, northern pike, and panfish can be caught. There are 18 miles of hiking trails through the wooded park, along with 16 miles of horse trails and connections to the Taconite State Trail, a 165-mile multiuse trail that runs from Ely to Grand Rapids. The campsites are mainly along Side Lake and Beatrice Lake and are reasonably well spaced. Pets are allowed.
