This bare-bones, rustic campsite is used by ATVers who appreciate the access to the Rabey Line ATV Trail, canoeists who are making their way down the Mississippi, and fishing enthusiasts who want the proximity to Pokegama Lake. It’s situated amid substantial amounts of public land, and provides plenty of privacy and natural appeal. Pets are allowed. This part of the state is one of the most scenic and beloved areas in Minnesota. It’s also steeped in history. Originally settled by the Ojibwe, the northeast area was soon discovered by Europeans who came looking for trade routes and posts. Fur trading was a booming business until the mid-1800s, when the traders and trappers moved farther west to the Mississippi headwaters area. However
