Located within Pat Bayle State Forest, this tiny rustic campground is perfect for campers who really want the solitude and peace of a remote camping experience without having to commit to the larger Boundary Waters experience. The forest itself is part of Superior National Forest, and it offers plenty of boating, hiking, and biking opportunities, including the option of trekking to the top of Eagle Mountain (Minnesota’s highest point at 2,301 feet). (Note: The forest is open to hunters, so take precautions if camping during hunting season.) Campsites are only a few hundred feet away from the parking area, so it’s not an onerous trek. Once there, campers can fish and enjoy the swimming beach, or track the birds and wildlife. Pets are allowed.
