Sawbill Lake Campground is an entry point to the Boundary Waters, and part of the campground and Sawbill Lake itself are within the BWCAW and fall under the wilderness area restrictions. The part of the lake not in the BWCAW is open for unrestricted boating—make sure you know which part of the lake you’re on and follow the relevant rules. As an entry point the lake access can be busy, but the campsites themselves are away from the landing and not on the water, providing a more peaceful atmosphere. The sites are instead tucked away into huge stands of majestic red and white pines. Pets are allowed.
