Located in the General C.C. Andrews Forest and on the shores of Zalesky Lake, this primitive campground offers lake access for recreation and the peacefulness of a small campground in a large forest. There’s access to both the lake and to the Willow River. The forest itself offers 40 miles of hiking trails and 37 miles of ATV trails. Sites are wooded and private. Pets are allowed. This part of the state is one of the most scenic and beloved areas in Minnesota. It’s also steeped in history. Originally settled by the Ojibwe, the northeast area was soon discovered by Europeans who came looking for trade routes and posts. Fur trading was a booming business until the mid-1800s, when the traders and trappers moved farther west to the Mississippi headwaters area.
