Located within Nemadji State Forest, the Gafvert Campground is primitive and offers great recreational opportunities due to its location adjacent to Pickerel Lake and the Willard Munger State Trail, a multiuse trail that runs between Hinckley and Duluth. Pickerel Lake offers decent fishing and swimming. The forest itself has 32 miles of horseback trails and 121 miles of ATV trails. (Note: The forest is open to hunters, so take precautions if camping during hunting season.) The campground is open year- round, but roads are not plowed in winter. Sites are wooded and private. Pets are allowed.
