Located within St. Croix State Forest, this primitive campground is not far from St. Croix State Park and is a good alternative to that larger, more heavily used park. Here are lovely hiking trails to enjoy as well as swimming and fishing. This part of the state is one of the most scenic and beloved areas in Minnesota. It’s also steeped in history. Originally settled by the Ojibwe, the northeast area was soon discovered by Europeans who came looking for trade routes and posts. Fur trading was a booming business until the mid-1800s, when the traders and trappers moved farther west to the Mississippi headwaters area.
