This historic park is at the mouths of the Leaf and Partridge Rivers, both tributaries of the Crow Wing River. A fur trading post built here in 1783 was the site of a battle between traders and the Sioux, who wanted access to their hunting grounds. There are several hiking trails and a bogwalk on- site, as well as access to the rivers. Minnesota may be best known for its northeast corner along Lake Superior, and certainly that’s a strikingly beautiful place, but the northwest part of the state, while very different in terrain and feel, has great beauty as well. Even better, it has excellent outdoor recreational opportunities.
