Located in Huntersville State Forest, this campground is near the Crow River and provides access to it. There are also access points to the Shell River within the forest. In addition there are 150 miles of old logging trails that are now used by hikers to explore the forest (and some vehicles as well). (Note: The forest allows grouse hunting in the fall, so if camping during hunting season, take precautions.) Only half an hour away from Itasca State Park, this is a great alternative for campers wanting to visit Itasca but stay somewhere quieter and more remote. Widely spaced sites in dense stands of hardwoods make for good amounts of privacy. Pets are allowed.
