Besides being a big draw for canoers and kayakers due to its location on the Crow Wing River Canoe Route, this park is also popular for its good swimming area, which has a sandy bottom and very gentle current. It’s also got some history to it, in that it was the site of a CCC camp in the 1940s. Campsites are amply private and shaded. Pets are allowed. Minnesota may be best known for its northeast corner along Lake Superior, and certainly that’s a strikingly beautiful place, but the northwest part of the state, while very different in terrain and feel, has great beauty as well. Even better, it has excellent outdoor recreational opportunities.
