The campground is part of a larger park that was created after the 1997 floods that decimated much of the land along the river. A campground is a good use for the land, although situated as it is in the heart of East Grand Forks, it gives an oddly urban vibe to the camping experience. Still, there are many attractive amenities, such as the swimming beach and 7 miles of paved hiking and biking trails, as well as easy access to the city itself. Pets are allowed. Minnesota may be best known for its northeast corner along Lake Superior, and certainly that’s a strikingly beautiful place, but the northwest part of the state, while very different in terrain and feel, has great beauty as well. Even better, it has excellent outdoor recreational opportunities.
