The Seven Lakes Loop is an extensive adventure to several lush and rocky lake basins in the rarely visited northern portion of the Selway Crags, with a stopover at Stanley Hot Springs on the way. The Selway Crags are a small group of rugged mountains between the Lochsa River to the north and the Selway River to the south, in the western portion of the Selway–Bitterroot Wilderness. Most backpackers visit the more popular lakes in the central Selway Crags area farther south; the trails there are accessed from steep and rough roads leaving the Selway River. This hike is a strenuous yet rewarding alternative if you’d like to experience the crags’ ruggedness and isolation but don’t want to drive for hours on unmaintained four-by-four forest roads to get to the trailhead.
