The Kalama River provides Portland-area boaters with good intermediate and advanced water with lots of good play waves, pool-drop rapids, isolated scenery, and some challenging Class IV drops. Paddlers have ample access to the river, allowing them to decide the character of run desired. Most of the river can be viewed on the drive upstream. Scout for debris and make decisions regarding the Class IV rapids before you put in.
