Convoluted shores and steep hillsides of madrona and rocky meadows make Obstruction Pass prime San Juan Islands paddling country. Currents in its passageways are strong enough for some exciting rides and require a measure of caution. Alternative launch points around this area make a variety of trips possible from short local paddles to one-night or longer adventures. By adding another day to the itinerary, you could combine it with the Cypress Island route to the east or the James Island route to the south (see the Cypress Island and James Island chapters). It is a Cascadia Marine Trail site.
