Though it has most of the amenities of the San Juan Islands, including a Cascadia Marine Trail campsite, Lummi Island, sufficiently off the beaten cruising path to be overlooked by many powerboaters, is very popular with sea kayakers. The southern end has all the ruggedness that makes alongshore paddling so interesting, and a campground to match. This trip could be extended to Clark Island, covered in a separate chapter, which has an alternative route via Lummi Island.
