The lower Satsop and its lower East and West Forks constitute a network of small, intimate clear-water streams that flow out of the southern Olympics through rain-forest vegetation.
The area is largely cut over, but the second-growth areas still offer high-quality habitat for paddlers. One of the launch sites is in a state park. The pool-and-drop character of the river offers challenges to the paddler, and the scenery provides an exciting and varied backdrop.
